Department of Education For Buwan ng Wika

The country observes the whole month of August as “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa” in grateful celebration of having a common language that unites the whole nation. Spearheaded by the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino and the Department of Education, a lineup of activities has been firmed up to draw maximum participation from students who themselves are the biggest group that uses and studies  the national language as part of  their school lesson.

According to Education Secretary Armin Luistro, the month-long celebration of the national language is divided into five parts.  From August 1 to 7, the focus is in giving importance to the national language which will be highlighted by taking to heart the lyrics of the national anthem. “I think this generation has to revisit and better appreciate the significance of every word and the depth of nationalism embodied in our national anthem,” said Luistro. From August 8 to 14, the highlight is on the importance of the national language in enforcing discipline that will lead to national development. For this, the text of the pledge of allegiance to the Philippine flag will be dissected and put to heart. The schools are encouraged to stage plays and writing contests that emphasize why discipline is important in achieving progress.

On August 15 to 21, the theme is the use of language as an instrument to achieve freedom and justice. Schools are encouraged to conduct a symposium on the history of the country’s struggle for freedom and the holding of debate following the theme “Ang Kahalagahan ng Wika sa Larangan ng Katarungan.”

For the week of August 22 to 28, the theme is “Wikang Filipino: Tugon sa Malinaw na Programa sa Tuwid na Landas.” The week will be about composing songs and writing poetry on the programs being pursued by the government such as caring for the environment, cleanliness and promotion of national language. The remaining days of August will be anchored on the celebration of the Filipino language as the voice of teachers, students, and the language of heroism.

Luistro said this will be observed by celebrating the ideals by which our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal lived and died for the motherland. Schools are also expected to come up with programs that will make students understand why the langauge is the light and strength of a nation.

DepEd Supports 4S Laban sa Dengue

The Department of Education issued a memorandum emphasizing the urgency of the anti-dengue drive particularly in schools where school children become most vulnerable. This is in support of the national campaign led by the Department of Health (DOH) conducted regularly during the rainy season in all public schools nationwide.

Carrying this year’s theme “Eskwelahan, Simbahan, Barangay, Palengke at Buong Komunidad, Sama-Sama Nating Sugpuin ang Dengue,” the department released DepEd Memorandum (DM) No. 152, series 2011 that specifies measures that should be undertaken to protect the school populace from dengue.

“Dengue fever is one of the country’s major health concerns now. Over the years, it has taken its toll on our population, including many of our school children, our health services, and the nation’s overall productivity. This is why DepEd has been one of the most committed agencies in the anti-dengue campaign. Our motivation is obvious: our schoolchildren are among the most prone to dengue-carrying aedes aegypti mosquitoes, and we want this to stop,” said Education Secretary Armin Luistro.

Luistro furthered that it is in this light that DepEd has been working hand in hand with DOH through a social mobilization and advocacy
campaign to prevent and control dengue cases in all public schools nationwide through the 4S Strategy. 4S Strategy stands for Search and destroy; Seek early consultation; Self-protective measures; and Say “no” to indiscriminate fogging.

As a member of the Health and Emergency Management Team headed by the DOH, DepEd also serves as a focal agency in monitoring unusual disease occurrences or prevalence in schools. This includes reporting on any outbreak in dengue cases among schoolchildren in any part of the country. To complement these efforts, the DepEd has made several issuances on dengue prevention and control which is currently being mplemented by our school health personnel in coordination with school authorities in all elementary and secondary schools.

Under PASS, pupils/students will observe the well-being of their own classmates and immediately report if someone among them is not feeling well or has colds/cough or fever. If confirmed, the principal shall notify the family/guardian of the sick child. If the school does not have a physician, the nearest health center physician/municipal health officer or rural health worker shall be consulted.

Close collaboration should be made with the Parents-Teachers Associations (PTAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), and Municipal Health Offices (MHOs) on the conduct of information campaign against Dengue H-Fever; maintenance of environment sanitation in the schools and in the communities; and referral of pupils/students/personnel with symptoms of Dengue H-Fever.

Underground River Palawan Tour - Day 2

We woke up early around 6AM, because the night before the tour our guide sent a message that they will pick us up around 7-8AM in the morning. Me and my husband prepared all the things necessary for our Underground River Tour. We ate at the buffet breakfast (included in accommodation payment) at the hotel's restaurant while waiting for our tour guide and at exactly 7.48 Ms Anna arrived and informed the front desk that we will be with them the whole day. Im so excited that day as well as my husband because we will soon be seeing our country's bet for the 7 Wonders of the Nature.

Ms Anna told us the history of Palawan and the story behind each of island we encountered along the way. Since its a 2 hours drive going from where the site was, we instructed to take a rest after the story-telling. But guess what, I can't even close my eyes because the scenery is amazing. Trees everywhere and the people have smile in their faces welcoming us. About 10AM, We ask if we want to have a Mangrove Pedal Boat Tour (200Php) because we were too early for our buffet lunch (included on the tour payment 1,300Php). We all decided to have a try and its worth if you are a person who loves trees and nature. I find that tour so romantic because the boat is sailing slowly along the river and lots of mangrove trees everywhere. We also saw snakes and monkeys which serves as their natural habitat.

11:15AM After that, we had our buffet lunch at the beach, the Sandy's Restaurant along the Sabang beach was prepared and we ended up so full after which. We rest for a while and dipped into the water. Our scheduled boat going to the exact place of Underground River is 2PM, so we decided to enjoy the water more. Likewise we took as many photos as we can again.. hehe..

2PM this is the moment we've been waiting for,a 20 minute boat ride to get there. I almost cried when we arrived at the place. It was so silent and the beach has an extra quality this time I don't know why. Our tour guide presented the permit and we trailed and the beauty of Underground River surprises us instantly at the end of the trail. The water is so clean and clear and the boat are so organized.

As we enter the Underground River I was so afraid because it was too dark inside and the means of light we had is the light that is using a car battery on it. My husband was assign to handled the light because we were the ones on front of the boat. The boat man paddling the boat and served as our tour guide inside. When I saw the structures inside, I could not say anything. It was so amazing, the natures can really make wonders here on earth and I cant explain what I feel. Now I know why, Palawan Underground River's one of the finalist among the 7 Wonders of the Nature.

4:00PM We ended up so tired and exhausted for that tour, I don't know how many bumps on the van's window my head got all I remembered was once I get on the van after we went back to Sabang beach I woke up in our hotel's lobby na hehhe...

Standby for the Part II of our Palawan Tour. this time I will share to you our Honda Bay Tour which I find exciting and I got a chance to swim with the small and big fishes.

Coke supports Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0

Last year I am fortunate to attend the first ever Pinoy Blogfest courtesy of Gadgets Magazine. The two days event was full of information and knowledge about latest technology and gadgets. Updates from health, digital life and photography. The event was full of fun also specially the raffle segments happened in between discussion and the event finished with overflowing food, drinks, band and fabulous prizes from raffle again and I did won one of the grand prize a TCL LCD TV. You can read my post on my other blog HERE about it. And this year they'll be having it again.here's the information.
-----Press Release----
The Coca-Cola Export Company has signed on to support Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0, Gadgets Magazine’s annual social media event.  Now on its second year, Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0 is scheduled to happen on 5 August 2011 at the Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City.

In its first run in 2010, Pinoy_Blogfest 1.0 attempted to start the dialogue on ethical issues confronting social media, with the theme Opportunity & Responsibility.  Attended by some 80 bloggers, the conference addressed questions such as: “Should bloggers observe journalistic ethics?” and “Can bloggers make money from their web presence?”
Continuing the discourse on the role of social media in Philippine society, this year’s Pinoy_Blogfest 2.0 is themed Social Media as a Change Agent.

With the increasing ubiquity of Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms, Filipinos have once again made the Philippines the world’s social networking capital.  Theoretically, therefore, everyone on Facebook or Twitter, and eventually the new Google+, has the potential to influence his “friends” or “followers” through his posts and status updates.  This democratizes social media and empowers each one with the opportunity to be a force for good.

Pinoy_Blogfest is open to the public, offering a program of social activities targeted at various audiences.   Interested participants may opt to attend any one or all of the public social activities, namely The New Workplace, Its a Digital Life, Healthy Living and Photography.

Interested bloggers are requested to send their name, blog URL, and contact details to blogfest@gadgetsmagazine.com.ph for invites to the by-invitation-only evening program by July 31, Sunday. Visit us at http://www.gadgetsmagazine.com.ph

Puerto Princesa Palawan City Tour - Day 1

Its sunny day when we arrived at Puerto Princesa last June 28 and my hubby's so excited to explore the place and decided to rent a tricycle outside the airport that will tour us around the city before we check-in into the Hotel.Yes you heard it right, you can  tour around the city of Puerto Princesa by means of this simple transportation - tricycle. At first I am hesitant to try the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) tour due safety and convenience but with my hubby's high spirited individuality and confident of doing it and he managed to convince me in a short notice. We started our first 4 hours taking places here and there. With our driver, tour guide and alalay Mang Buboy, we truely enjoyed the tour and conveniently go around hidden beauty of Palawan without pressure in time and places to go to. Someone who is trained as a travel agent can help you find the best places to visit.

12: 28PM After a short negotiation with Mang Buboy with 400Php, we went straight to Baker's Hill, perfect place to eat our lunch because its past 12PM already and because we heard that it serves a good furnace cooked pizza and a delicious chicken dishes. Kids and kids at heart will also enjoy photo opps at their garden/park as we both did, with the disney character statues and figures scattered around the place. Dont forget to try and buy Hopia okay, or else you will blame yourself after if you'll not.Baker's Hill located at Mitra Road Sta Monica Puerto Princesa Palawan. About 30 mins from the airport.-Free Entrance

2:30PM Then after a sumptuous meal and disney character meet and greet hehe..we headed to  Rancho Sta Monica. This property is owned by the Mitra's and its a block away from Baker's Hill. A breathtaking view that you could witnessed almost all the water beauty of Palawan and Mang Buboy told us the part where the Honda Bay is which added more excitement for me because its included in our itinerary. Dont forget to try their Zipline Adventure  to view the scenery in 360 degree.- Free Entrance

3:30PM About 10 minutes away from Rancho Sta Monica, Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center is located. This is where the famous Crocodile Farm is situated and it is managed by the government particularly the Dpartment of Environment and Natural Resources. We saw a lot as in , a lot of different species, sizes. parts and breeds of crocodiles here and we even took some photos with one of the crocodile celebrity of the week hehe..- Entrance Fee 40Php.

5:2PM0 We instructed Mang Buboy to drop us at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish of Palawan wherein we can have our anticipated mass. Since 5:30PM mass is not yet starting we had a quick visit to Plaza Cuartel located only at the right side of the street fronting the church. This place is a former Japanese garrison and its very historical because almost 150 American soldiers burned by Japanese soldiers in Dec 14, 1944 during the WWII and now it serves as a Memorial Park in honor of the American and local soldiers, our hero.

5: 35PM We had our first ever mass at the Palawan Cathedral obviously hehe.. and we took a tricycle ride paying 20Php went straight forward to Skylight Hotel along Rizal Ave to check-in and rest for awhile.

6:30PM We had our dinner at Balinsasayaw Grill and Restaurant located along Rizal Ave also a five minutes walk away from our hotel. You must try this cosy restaurant that serves local dish that is fresh and delicious. The location of our Hotel is very accessible to various stores and establishment that's why we really chooses it beforehand.

8:00PM The dinner was so great not to mention the number of rice I ordered shhhh..So we decided to go to Puerto Princesa City Baywalk wherein designed lamp posts dominating the lighting within the bay. Though place is best visited early in the morning for the sun rise or in the afternoon for the sun set we opted to go at that time for us to appreciate the beauty of the lamp posts and parked boats. We also saw the very huge US Navy Ships parked at the pier and the ships music echoing within the whole place which adds the romantic ambiance of the place. I think they here for the Barikatan Practice which is held every year at Palawan.

Our first day in Palawan ended watching TV at our Hotel room with popcorn  and a two pillows under my feet hehe.. and after a shower and a uploading pictures..Were so excited for the our next adventure the package Underground River tour. Our tour guide confirmed her arrival at our hotel between 7-8AM, when me and my hubby kiss goodnight :)).

Watch out for the Day II of our adventure, stay tune..
