The First-Ever Bloggers Buffet @ Carol's Texan 5

Last Thursday June 24th, I was fortunate to attend the first Bloggers Buffet at Carol's Texan 5 organized by Mr Tristan Mirasol owner of Ten Minutes, Tops! blog. It was raining cats and dogs and large swaths of Metro Manila were battered by flood cause by tropical storm Falcon and monsoon rains. But despite the challenges that we encountered due weather condition, the event was so fun and successful.

Me and Divine arrived at Carol's Texan 5 located at the corner of Wilson and Jose Abad Santos, San Juan at exactly 5:30PM few bloggers are already there and started to talked about our journey conquering floods and braving the rain. Despite of that it was worth to be there because as the minutes went by lots of invited bloggers are arriving and I met a lot of them at last in person, then the program started and Tristan as the anchor was so happy as we all do. He introduced the owner of Carol's Texan 5 non other than Ms Carol Chan. She welcomed us with open arms as she presented her masterpiece meals which started as fab favorites of her friends and family before she arrived at this successful restaurant. As such:

Tomato Basil Pasta: This Pasta is so light and refreshing aside from the sweet and sour flavor  of tomato you can also smell the aroma of basil while eating. It gives a light feeling, because the pasta being used is fettuccine that's why its so thin and you'll be asking for more Im sure, for me I omitted the cheese and you will surely taste the tomatoes and basil's perfect combination.
Rating: 3/5

Dynamite Wings: A tender and delicious blend of spicy and sweet that definitely well blend in your mouth. I like spicy foods because I am Bicolana but this dish isn't that spicy as I expected to be, but it totally tempted my taste buds to eat more and more.
Rating: 4/5

and the Ultimate Texan Ribs: This smokey flavored ribs was delicious, Its so succulent I almost eat the bone. The meat is tender, you can say that it was well marinated and cooked in good process. It really taste great, I can say that this one is my favorite among Carol's Texan 5 delicious dishes.
Rating: 5/5

You want to know why she came up with the Carol's Texan 5 name? 'Carol's' of course from the owners first name and the special meals are all her personal recipes and for me it is a "Homemade Recipes With Top Class Taste", then 'Texan' because Ms Carol really love American foods and the '5' is the five special meals which includes Ultimate Texan Ribs,Texan Grilled Chicken,Tomato Basil Pasta w/ Shrimp, Cowboy Rib Eye Steak and the Five Star Fish and Fries that will surely satisfied your gastronomical cravings. As we taken the pictures of the prepared meals we might as well pose and took pictures of ourselves into their "Wanted Photo Wall" and the "Picture Balloon Booth" which we really enjoyed and act as celebrities. And you can check out HERE also for thousands of pictures that we had at the said event.

They are also so generous in giving us  prizes for the trivia games from the sponsors of the event like the Fern C for the Fern C Coffee packs, Club Travel Now.org for the tote bags, IAMPilipinas.com for the DesignYourDreams Vision Boards, CliqManila.com for the tickets to the event on June 29, and Cignal Digital TV.

We also received lots of giveaways from San Miguel for the great taste of Antonov Vodka, Coca-Cola for the ice tea, Magnolia for the delicious ice cream desert, Carol's Texan 5 for the pretty personalized journal, Fern C again for the Fern C Coffee, and PhotoBalloon for the nice personalized balloons.

We really had so much fun and enjoyed the night and we all went home wet but full of memories, likewise full stomach of course. I fulfilled my goal as I first stated my purposed on my previous post that is I tasted the sumptuous meal and reviewed it, I met loads of new food/bloggers and to share more about it on my food blog as well (soon after this one) Thank you very much to Ms Carol Chan, Tristan Mirasol and his brother.

Thank You So Much !!!

Recently Pinay Mommies Community (PMC) launched an online forum wherein we can hold conversation, focus and archived. At first I don't have any idea how to converse to a particular person in the forum but when the 'Introduction' topic was set, I have a chance to communicate in a particular person and I had a chance to know the members individually which I found more intimate than Facebook chat, post or any other types of social interacting. Thank you so much to Momy Ruby (moderator) and all the members you did a great, awesome, and  fabulous job. Now we are more focused, determined and discipline to make 'chika' ahihih...

Also the forum conducted a contest which we all have a chance to win 30USD for the first 10 who will reach the "Full Member" status by the end of the June. Luckily because of my talkativeness or 'kadaldalan' I won and I am one of the 10 winners yeayyy...I accomplished the 'Full Member' status on midnight of June 19. Thank you so much to the beautiful June 2011 contest sponsors mwahh..mwahh... Here are their blog link.

Owning A Credit card

Credit cards are cards that are made from layers of laminated plastics, bind together for durability and complexity used.  It is packed with security features to prevent the possibility of fraud. Designed  with magnetic stripe and owners information with a series of numbers for every individual. I myself have a credit card but Im planning to avail one for me to expand my variety of purchases.

Last week I went to our bank and asked about mastercard application which I need to have especially when I am going out of the country because it is widely accepted anywhere in the world. I only need to fill-out the application form with my complete details and they will contact me again when approved and for card releasing. I should have a mastercard because I can purchase from different participating brands which is usually available in other country, one thing I should watched-out is of course the credit limit. I remember when my husband and I, went to Singapore and shopped at Vivo City, we bought an Apple iPhone and got it instantly using his credit card. Apparently, due to lock of credit limit to purchase my bag he end up got me a shoes instead.

For five years of having it they are pros and cons of owning one and here are my tips for credit cards, and this implies for the whole family as well. Firstly, ask your partner or head of the family if you need one, then ask yourself also if you can take the responsibility of having one. Secondly, Keep your card in a safe place and report it immediately if they've been lose or stolen or you suspected of fraud or any other anomaly. Lastly, have a discipline in purchasing things, you have to get first the things that you 'need' followed by what you 'want'. And if you want to have your own in an easy way, there are credit card online application services that you can try also, using your internet you can apply and approved instantly at your own pace.

Guess What Im Doing When Im Angry

In recent years of my growth and development one thing that I really learned from my mom is to not to deny my anger so that I can release my pent-up emotions by cleaning my room, segregating my things and shout into the air just to comfort my feelings and not hurting any body else. By doing that I think it relieves me and its very healing. As a result I never keep things locked up by myself because its very hard. Aside from that I tend to do things that is beneficial for everybody like cooking a lot of meals and sweeping the floor until my anger had subsided hehe.. they are more creative and appropriate channels of expressing my anger my friends and families can attest to that. Sometimes they want me to give valium.

DOH Breastfeeding Peer Counselors' Training

Recently I had attended a peer counseling training for mother's and soon to be mother's organized by Arugaan under the Department of Health TSEK Campaign (see my post here about the campaign), a non-government organization that aims to promote and boost the breastfeeding advocacy in our country. I am one of the fortunate bloggers to witness how barangay health workers are trained to train the nursing moms especially in rural communities.

At exactly 8 o'clock in the morning we all gathered at the Merced Bakeshop's function hall and started the program with a prayer. The talked was conducted by the Arugaan's representatives and each and everyone of them has its own mastery of the craft so the participants are separated into two groups to accommodate and gave the quality time to absorb the knowledge that Arugaan prepared for them.

To keep the ball rolling, the first topic was all about the importance of breastfeeding for mother, child, family as well as to our country. Breastfeeding is very important for a baby especially the first hours of his life, so 'colostrum' or the first milk from the mothers breast should be given to him at once because it contains antibodies to protect the newborn against diseases. Moreover it is the right kind of milk that only absorbed by the newborn baby's stomach because it has lower fat and higher in protein that is very useful for the baby rather than the formula milk that is made from animals milk.

Furthermore, essential newborn care is initiated and the proper positioning in administering breatsmilk is illustrated. Since the baby has what you called 'sucking reflex' they can suck  the mother's milk and dissolved it significantly. The mother has to learn the proper position like assymetric latch technique, wherein holding back the baby's head as it position properly on the breast of the mother including the areola (the darker skin of the breast) exactly into the mouth of the baby while holding the his  whole body close to.

Aside from lectures and discussions, the organizers also prepared different  activities that enhances and adapt the lessons that they learned like separating magazine cut-outs or pictures which are good results of breastfeeding and the bad causes bottle feeding babies.

It was a day of learning and fun way of attending peer counselor training. Hopefully you could also joined in one of DOH's TSEK campaign soon. And you can also shared and spread the goodness and better health starting from our baby and for the country.

Like the TSEK on Facebook HERE and See you soon in one of they're events and campaigns.

In the run-up to SME Week, which will be celebrated on the second week of July this year, the provincial MSMED Councils have started announcing the winners of the SME Rising Star Award in their respective provinces.

With government statistics indicating that 99.6% of registered businesses belong to the micro, small and medium enterprise segments, the government’s SME Star Program was formulated as an important framework for SME development and promotion.

According to DTI Secretary Gregory L. Domingo, “The SME Star Program is a competency program that supports the growth and sustainability of SMEs through the business development stages.  In cooperation with other SME stakeholders, we offer a package of services and interventions in such key areas as marketing, production, financial management, and management and technical skills development, in order to nurture the enterprise’s growth to the next stage.”

The SME Star Program identifies three stages of business development, with a corresponding recognition or award for each level.  Stage 1 is the start-up or capability-building phase, and is recognized through the SME Rising Star Award given at the provincial level.  Each province awards three SME Rising Stars — one winner each for the micro, small, and medium enterprise categories.  A total of 249 start-up businesses are recognized as SME Rising Stars annually.  Stage 2, identified as the market penetration or export awareness stage, is the next step in successful enterprise development.  At this stage, outstanding businesses are recognized at the regional level with the SME Star Elite Award.  Per region, one micro, one small and one medium enterprise is conferred the SME Star Elite Award; a total of 48 deserving SMEs will receive the recognition annually.

Nueva Ecija recently announced the province’s first-ever nominees to the SME Star Elite Awards, as follows: Kababaihang Masigla ng Nueva Ecija, Nueva Cabanatuan Meat Products, and Philnor Aqua, Inc. for the micro, small and medium enterprise categories, respectively.  At the awarding ceremonies, Dr. Reynato C. Arimbuyutan, president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry-Nueva Ecija chapter noted that, “The awards might be the key needed to open the interest of businessmen to improve the competitiveness of the province.”

The SME Star Program is seen as an important component in MSME development and promotion, as it recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs that have shown remarkable achievements in growing their businesses to become globally competitive enterprises.

As part of the SME Week celebration in July, President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino is expected to launch the search for the national SME Star Presidential Awardees from among the top SMEs in the country, particularly those that have successfully expanded operations in the domestic market or become globally competitive.  One SME Star Presidential Award winner will be announced in 2012.

BGC's Balloon Festival

They say that a balloon is a rubber inflated and airtight bag that floats and rises above the sky when filled with gas lighter than the air example of this are helium and the usual elements that uses now, the hydrogen. I've always thinking that I'm up like a balloon especially when I laugh as if I am full filled with gas that I simply cant keep on the ground. Just like when I saw the parade of balloon at the Bonifacio High Street last June 4, 2011. The event called Passion Parade BGC wherein parade of balloons, cars, cycling organizations and more to give some fun and excitement into the community.

People are gathered into the sidewalks as the signal of the start of the parade announced. People in all walks of life are excitingly waiting for the dog -shaped, bear-shaped and flower-shaped balloon that they can see from afar, therefore as the parade started taking pictures here and there is non-stop including me of course. The people wow as they see the different size and shapes of the balloons. The children cant wait to hug and touch them as they passing by.

A fun experience for me indeed and im looking forward to see it again next year as they announced that its gonna be an annual event and they promised that will be bigger that the one they have right now. I am so excited to see that and hopefully I have a child by then for him to enjoy as well as we do..

Bugo Bridge by Waagner- Biro Philippines Inc. (WBPI)

The recently concluded Bugo Bridge inauguration in San Remigio, Antique, proved to be a timely blessing for many residents of the  calamity-prone region.
Constructed by Waagner-Biro Philippines Inc. (WBPI), the local subsidiary of Austria-based corporation Waagner-Biro Stahlbau AG, in partnership with the Austrian government and DPWH, the unveiling of the 430-linear meter bridge attracted curious San Remigio denizens in droves, as well as passers-by from neighboring towns.
San Remigio mayor Hon. Glenn Cabigunda expressed his gratitude for the completion of the project.  “On behalf of the San Remigionhons, I would like to thank Antique Governor Javier, his son Congressman Paolo Javier and the Austrian Embassy for their part in the realization of the new Bugo Bridge,” he said. “The bridge can boost the economy of the town.  People in the mountain barangays will no longer worry traversing high waters along Sibalom River during rainy season just to get to the town to transport their harvests.”
Governor Javier added, “I am happy that WBPI was able to finish this project ahead of schedule. They finished it on just one year and six months – one month ahead of schedule. This new bridge will not just provide the farmers easy access to the market but will also open up other opportunities with the presence of a number of waterfalls in the area that we could develop into tourism destinations.”

Local townspeople also reveled in the opening of the new bridge. One ecstatic family from San Remigio who witnessed the inauguration couldn’t contain their excitement after the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. “Ga pasalamat gid kami sang bag-o nga taytay kay dako gid ang bulig sini sa amon pangabuhi,” (We are thankful for this new bridge because our livelihood depends on it) said the family’s matriarch.  “Tungod sang taytay, mas may tiempo na kami sa amon nga mga pamilya.” (We now have more time to spend with our family).
Construction of the bridge started on October 1, 2009, and was completed last March 31, 2011 – one month ahead of schedule. The Bugo Bridge is one of 18 bridges that qualified for full turnkey construction by the Supply and Services Contract of Austrian Bridges Consortium WB + MCE, under the DPWH Construction Acceleration Project for Calamity Stricken Areas. WBPI is responsible for the overall management and implementation of the project.
The DPWH Construction Acceleration Project for Calamity Stricken Areas project started on July 7, 2008 and is scheduled to be completed on July 6, 2011. It aims to immediately replace disaster stricken bridges with structurally sound permanent steel bridges in order to sustain basic social industrial and agricultural activities, and to provide safe and faster movement of goods.
The Bugo Bridge is a milestone for WBPI as it commemorates its 15th year of operations in the country, playing a major role in projects that will serve to improve the lives of many Filipinos in the calamity-stricken area.  Other remarkable bridges constructed by DPWH using the Austrian modular steel bridging materials are: 1) 900 linear meter Calaba Bridge in Bangued, Abra; 2) 350 linear meter Jones Bridge in Jones, Isabela and 3) the 140 linear meter Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge connecting the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong in Metro Manila.

The Bugo Bridge is the latest addition to the impressive resume of Waagner-Biro’s 15-year history in the country. In 1999, Waagner-Biro Stahlbau AG signed the first contract with the Philippine government “The President’s Bridge Program Phase II – Austrian Assisted” represented by the Department of the Interior and Local Government for the supply, engineering and related services covering 306 bridges with a total length of 12,250 linear meters. This first contract was implemented within a period of 57 months in close coordination with the DILG and the Local Government Units.
In 2001, DPWH Austrian Bridges Consortium WB + MCE, signed another contract with the Philippine government represented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) called “DPWH Bridge Construction Replacement Project – Austrian Assisted”.
This contract comprises the supply of 112 modular steel bridges including the detailed engineering of substructures and auxiliary services for a total length of 7,825 linear meters. The implementation of this project covering the national secondary road network in the Philippines took 39 months and was completed by end of July 2005.
All projects consisting of 436 bridges and a total of 21,555 linear meters were financed by Austrian export loans under the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) framework on a bilateral basis.
After so many years of presence and the successful implementation of three big bridge projects, the Austrian modular steel bridges have become well known and a trademark in the Philippines in terms of reliable and high quality steel bridge construction.
Internationally, Waagner-Biro consists of the Waagner-Biro Stahlbau AG Group with its two divisions of steel and glass construction and bridge construction; Waagner-Biro Austria Stage Systems – the most important international supplier of stage equipment; Waagner-Biro Gulf – an infrastructure specialist; and finally the British subsidiary Qualter, Hall & Co Ltd., working in the fields of mechanical engineering, bridge construction and contract manufacturing.
The bridge construction division of the Waagner-Biro Stahlbau AG Group also operates internationally in the fields of mechanical and steel construction. Waagner-Biro is a full-range supplier in the steel bridge construction area and in system bridges. The success of the Waagner-Biro Group is based on top level engineering know-how and more than 150 years experience in steel construction and mechanical engineering.
